This is the 1958 Second Edition (June 1958) of This Is the Mass, published by Hawthorn Books, New York. It features text by Henri Daniel-Rops, commentary and celebration by Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, and iconic black & white photography by Yousuf Karsh.
A beautiful mid-century illustrated book explaining the Traditional Latin Mass (pre-Vatican II) with approximately 30 full-page Karsh photographs of Bishop Sheen celebrating Mass in his private chapel. Includes a special reproduced letter from the Vatican Secretariat of State (J.B. Montini, later Pope Paul VI) praising the original French edition.
Condition
Good vintage condition with visible age-related wear consistent with a 68-year-old book. The yellow textured hardcover binding shows some fading and discoloration, primarily on the edges and spine. Light shelf wear to corners and edges. Binding remains tight and pages appear clean with no major tears, writing, or damage noted in the photos. No dust jacket is included.
