1966 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon For Sale

Rare 1966 VW Westfalia pop-top camper bus with an exceptionally original camper interior. What makes this Westfalia especially desirable is how complete it remains. So many of these buses have lost their original camper equipment, cabinetry and accessories over the years, while this one still retains the pieces that make it a true Westfalia camper. The original camper equipment is still intact, including the sofa/bed, swing-out tables, refrigerator/icebox, potable water tank and original Westfalia cabinetry and interior components. The bus retains its fully operational crank-out side windows, split windshield and all original factory glass! The pop-top is complete and functional. The original tent/canvas does have a tear on one side panel. The front seats will need to be reupholstered. The odometer reads 96225, which are believe to be the original miles. The engine and transmission are believed to be original, as well. It starts with a jump start and runs very strong. Recent servicing performed: a complete tune-up, replacement of all four wheel cylinders, replacement/repair of several brake lines. The rear engine-cover hinges were replaced, and 4 new tires. All work performed by a ASE certified technician at a local garage and I have the invoices documenting the work. I am only the third owner. An especially nice piece of the bus’ history is I still have the previous owner’s title from when the second owner purchased the bus in 1968. That documentation will be included with the vehicle. Although it has been dry-stored throughout my 19 years of ownership, the Bus has significant pre-existing corrosion on portions of the underside. There is surface rust, scaling and pitting as well as areas of rust-through and metal loss requiring structural repair to the frame and a few crossmembers, including corrosion in the front chassis/steering-box mounting area. This vehicle has never been taken apart nor has had any modifications with the exception to the recent new muffler. Original spare wheel and used tire included in the sale of the rare bus. This 1966 Westfalia SO-42 is a relatively rare surviving example of Volkswagen’s iconic campers. This is one of approx. 4,650 SO-42 campers produced for the 1966 model year. Making this a very cool opportunity for someone looking for a largely complete vintage Westfalia to preserve, restore, and enjoy!
