I purchased this skirt from a vintage seller who stated that she had found it at a small shop in Munich specializing in resold circus gear, where it was represented as a handmade garment made for circus use. It is an exceptionally unusual piece with beautiful handmade construction throughout.
The skirt is cut as an extremely full circle, with tremendous volume and movement. The heavy white canvas is scattered with elongated harlequin-style silk diamonds in red, cobalt blue, green, pale yellow and silvery gray. The contrasting silk patches have visible stitching and wonderful variations in texture against the sturdy canvas ground.
The tiny fitted waistband closes with a metal hook-and-eye and snap. There is no maker\'s label.

Waist: approx. 12\" flat / 24\" circumference when fastened
Waist to hem: approx. 32\"
Please compare measurements carefully with a garment that fits you well. The waist is very small and has little to no stretch.
CONDITION
Good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and its apparent original use. There are scattered light marks/staining to the white canvas, and some of the silk diamond patches show wear/fraying, including one near the hem. The visible stitching and irregularities in construction are part of the handmade character of the garment. Please examine all photographs closely for condition and construction details.
A remarkable piece of vintage textile and circus history—equally compelling as a wearable skirt, costume piece, or collectible/display textile.
