1983 Burton Performer Experimental Series Snowboard-\"Factory\" Imperfections: $9500.00
Very Rare Imperfect early Burton snowboardNot created in a factory but hand carved. All early Burton snowboards were hand carved and painted.Because of this, sometimes, rarely, an imperfection made it through production. This board has several. In three different locations the white paint can be seen in blue locations where it should not exist. There was a problem drilling the holes for the nose rope and splintering occured. Those imperfections were simply painted over instead of starting over or fixing them. What are the A and J noted in the registration? The A is Andy Coghlan, a friend and early business partner of Jake Burton Carpenter, the founder of Burton Snowboards. The J refers to Jake Burton Carpenter, who founded the company in 1977 and is credited with developing modern snowboarding. - Jake Burton Carpenter:A snowboarding pioneer, he began making snowboards in his Vermont barn in 1977. He served as the founder and the \"soul of snowboarding\" until his death in 2019.
- Andy Coghlan:An early associate who helped Jake build some of the first Burton boards. Vintage boards from the early 1980s have been found with the signature \"AJ\" (Andy and Jake), indicating their joint workmanship. One collector recalls buying a board shaped by both Coghlan and Carpenter in the 1980s at the factory in Manchester, Vermont.
- Early boards:The earliest Burton boards were hand-built, and some feature the signatures of Coghlan and Carpenter, marking them as highly sought-after collector\'s items.
