1996-P Proof 1 oz American Silver Eagle Original Box & COA | Philadelphia 🇺🇲 For Sale

This is a 1996-P Proof American Silver Eagle still in its original U.S. Mint packaging — blue velvet case, outer box, and the official specifications card/COA. The coin itself sits in its clear capsule and shows the classic deep-mirror proof finish with frosted devices.

Why this one stands out: 1996 was a notable year for the Silver Eagle series. The regular bullion version had the lowest mintage in the entire run (just 3.6 million). The proof version was capped at 500,000 coins and actually sold out - the first time the Mint sold through its maximum authorized mintage since it started setting limits in 1990. Collectors paid $23 each at the time when silver was averaging only about $5 an ounce.

These were struck at the Philadelphia Mint and carry the “P” mint mark on the reverse (you can see it clearly near the eagle’s tail). From 1993 through 2000 the Mint produced proof Silver Eagles in Philadelphia before moving production to West Point in 2001. So the “P” proofs form a short, distinct chapter in the series.
