Roberto Clemente was born August 18, 1934 in Carolina, Puerto Rico. He was the National League MVP in 1966, the National League batting champion in 1967, and the World Series MVP in 1971. He won 12 consecutive Gold Glove Awards and reached double figures in outfield assists 15 times. He recorded exactly 3,000 hits and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973. He died on December 31, 1972 in a plane crash while delivering earthquake relief supplies to Nicaragua.
