This scupture is a reproduction of the original which is a large baroque marble group by Italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini, executed between 1621 and 1622. Bernini was only 23 years old at its completion, it depicts the abduction of Proserpina, where Proserpina is seized and taken to the underworld by the god Pluto.
This A. Santini sculpture I have listed is made out of alabaster/marble/bonded with resin on a very handsome stone base.
Measures 9 inches tall and from the estate of a Baltimore Classics professor.
