Engraved by W. J. Taylor after the painting by Richard Wilson; lettered below, A Summer\'s Evening, with the imprint London: George Virtue.
Richard Wilson (1714-1782) was the founder of classical landscape in British painting, and his Roman-inspired views marked the whole school that came after him.
