Large Vintage Bronze Egyptian Revival Bastet Cat Sculpture — Attributed to A. Tiot

Impressive large-scale patinated bronze sculpture depicting Bastet, the ancient Egyptian feline deity, seated in an elegant and highly stylized pose.

This sculpture is attributed to A. Tiot based upon extremely close comparison with documented examples of Tiot’s circa-1970s Egyptian Revival bronze cats. The form features the characteristic elongated legs, powerful stylized shoulders, upright ears, long curling tail and elaborate floral-patterned collar associated with this model. Documented signed examples have been catalogued as French works dating to approximately the 1970s.

The dark brown patinated bronze gives the sculpture a dramatic architectural presence, while the detailed ornamental collar creates a striking contrast with the sleek, simplified feline body. The overall design combines Egyptian Revival, Art Deco Revival and Hollywood Regency aesthetics and works beautifully as a statement sculpture in an entryway, library, living room or eclectic interior.

CONDITION

Very good vintage condition with attractive age-appropriate patina.

There are scattered surface scratches, rubbing, patina variation and small areas of oxidation/verdigris consistent with age and display. Some oxidation and surface variation are visible around the face, eyes and ornamental collar. Light marks are present throughout the bronze.

No major breaks or losses are apparent in the photographs. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are considered an integral part of the condition description.
