Description
This is an exquisite antique Italian devotional miniature portrait painting depicting the Virgin Mary (Madonna in Prayer) with a subtle golden halo. The artwork is delicately hand-painted with remarkable fine detail on a natural organic plate (spine laminate), showcasing soft skin tones and vibrant blue and crimson drapery. It features a faint, unidentified artist signature in the middle right background area (as detailed in the fifth photo), consistent with period regional Italian miniaturists.
The portrait is housed in an impressive, stylized sunburst marquetry frame constructed from radial sections of spine tiles over a solid backing. The oval portrait is securely bordered by a decorative beaded brass or bronze bezel with its original convex protective glass. On the reverse, the piece preserves fragments of a vintage Italian newspaper article detailing historical accounts of local regiments (such as the Brigata Palermo) and architectural reconstruction efforts around Monte Santo and Isonzo during World War I, reinforcing its authentic Italian provenance.Summary
