Offered here is an original pastel and colored pencil drawing by distinguished American artist Aaron Shikler (1922–2015), dated 1981.
This is a particularly personal work by Shikler, depicting the calico cat that belonged to our family.
I am Aaron Shikler’s son, and this drawing came directly from my father and has remained in our family since it was created.
The work is a wonderful example of Shikler’s ability to capture personality and expression with a relatively simple composition. The cat’s face, eyes and distinctive markings are rendered with sensitivity and economy, giving the drawing a quiet, intimate quality.

ABOUT AARON SHIKLER
Aaron Shikler was an important American portrait painter whose career spanned more than six decades. He was particularly celebrated for his portraits of prominent American figures and members of notable families.
His subjects included President John F. Kennedy, President Ronald Reagan, President Bill Clinton, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and numerous other prominent American figures.
Shikler’s work is represented in major American museum and institutional collections, and his portraits remain highly regarded by collectors of American art.
