Adele Watson 1926 Modernist Nude Figures Landscape Painting 22x30
Striking early American Modernist landscape painting by Adele Watson (1873–1947), acquired from the artist’s estate.
Signed “A. Watson ’26” in the lower-left corner and dated 1926. The composition depicts three ethereal nude figures floating or reclining above a lush, mountainous landscape. Flowing lines, expressive brushwork, and a distinctive palette of blue, green, lavender, cream, and pale pink give the work a dreamlike, allegorical quality.
The painting is executed on vintage Bainbridge Number 37 illustration board. The manufacturer’s marks remain visible on the reverse. The board appears to measure approximately 30” wide by 22” high, consistent with the dimensions printed on the back.
Adele Watson was born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1873. She studied at the Art Students League in New York and with Raphael Collin in Paris. After spending the early part of her career in New York, Watson became active in Pasadena, California, beginning around 1917. Her known work includes landscapes, portraits, nudes, and murals.

CONDITION:
Offered in as-found, unrestored antique condition with considerable age-related wear. The illustration board has rounded and worn corners, edge losses, chipping, abrasions, surface scratches, small areas of paint loss, discoloration, stains, and general surface soil. There are cracks or creases near portions of the edges and corners, along with scattered marks and imperfections throughout.
The painting would benefit from professional cleaning, conservation, and framing. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
