Born in Chadds Ford,Pennsylvania. The youngest child ofwell-known artist and illustrator Newell Convers Wyeth. He was educated by his parents at home,receiving his early training from his father.When Wyeth was seven years old, New Mexico artist, Peter Hurd, came tostudy with Wyeth for two years. It wasHurd who acquainted the young Wyeth with the Egg Tempura Technique used sofrequently in his mature works.At 16, Wyeth saw paintingsby Winslow Homer for the first time and that artist’s influence can be seen inWyeth’s early style. Wyeth’s paintingstend to be traditional imagery translated into somber tonal statements. Today, Wyeth continues to work and live inboth Chadds Ford and Maine, and is considered to be America’s most popularartist.
