Wonderful antique European cigarette case dating to 1921, with a finely textured/engine-turned exterior, clipped corners and gold-tone interior.
Marked ALPACCA along the interior rim, indicating nickel silver/German silver rather than sterling silver.
The interior has a particularly nice piece of history: an original handwritten name/signature dated “12.10.21.” The handwriting has not been identified or attributed, so it is being offered exactly as found.
Retains its interior elastic cigarette strap and push-button closure.
The exterior has an attractive darkened antique patina with wear, oxidation and surface marks consistent with more than a century of use. The gilt interior also shows age and wear. Please see photos for condition.
Approximately 3 1/2 inches tall; see measurement photo.
A handsome over-100-year-old personal cigarette case with its original dated inscription, and a great display piece for an early 20th-century, Art Deco, tobacciana or antique personal-accessories collection.
Condition: Antique used condition with substantial patina, oxidation, scratches and finish wear. Interior inscription remains clear. No attempt has been made to polish it.
