Front inner hinge shows cracking at the gutter with wear to the pastedown cloth, while the rear inner hinge is more prominently cracked with a visible gap between the text block and the case so that the binding feels shaken though the sewn gatherings remain attached. Front and rear endpapers are age toned with creases, edge tears, and losses at the fore-edge corners, including a sizeable chip on the front free endpaper. A previous owner has written a name in pencil on the front endpaper, and the rear blank leaf carries pencil study notes indexing sections on various European kings.
