Antique Dutch heraldic wax seal specimen for the de Ram van Hagedoorn family, mounted on its original handwritten collector/research card.
The red wax impression bears the legend:
“S’ FRANCOYS DE RAM VAN HAGEDORNE”
The seal features the historic De Ram heraldic design with rams on the shield, a barred helmet, decorative mantling, and ram crest. The original card includes handwritten Dutch heraldic notes, the name de Ram / Francois / H. v. Hagedorn, a hand-drawn coat-of-arms reference, and collection number 202.
Historical research confirms that the De Ram van Hagedoorn family was established in the Netherlands and that men named François de Ram van Hagedoorn are documented in 17th-century records. One François de Ram, born in 1645, became a Dutch military colonel. The exact individual associated with the original seal matrix has not been conclusively determined.
This piece appears to be an antique sigillographic collector’s impression reproducing an earlier historic seal design, rather than being represented as an original 17th-century wax impression.
Provenance: From the Historical Manuscripts & Wax Seal Collection of Prof. Weiber, sold by Palmer’s sale Co., Lot 24, May 7, 2026.
Condition: Original wax seal remains attached to the card. The wax shows several age-related radial cracks, but the heraldic design and surrounding lettering remain well defined. The card shows age toning, handwriting, and normal handling wear. Please review all photographs carefully for condition.
