Exceptional antique German Hanau silver casket/box by J.D. Schleissner & Söhne, featuring elaborate Rococo Revival/Historicist figural decoration with putti/cherub imagery, floral ornament and scrolling relief throughout the exterior and decorated interior lid.
The interior hallmark area is clearly marked with the German crescent moon and crown, 800 silver fineness mark, and the distinctive J.D. Schleissner & Söhne maker’s mark.
The 800 mark is important: this is genuine 800-fineness silver, containing 80% silver by weight. It is not sterling and not 830 silver.
The box measures approximately 4” long × 3” wide × 1½” high.
This is a highly decorative antique silver object intended for both collection and display. The combination of Hanau manufacture, documented J.D. Schleissner & Söhne attribution, 800 silver construction and elaborate figural Rococo Revival decoration makes it substantially more collectible than an unidentified generic silver box.
