Antique Japanese Kozuka Kogatana Hanaguruma Flower Cart Gold Inlay Sword Fitting For Sale

This listing is for an antique Japanese kozuka with kogatana, the decorative handle/fitting and small utility knife traditionally carried with a Japanese sword.

The kogatana blade is included.

The kozuka features an elegant and finely detailed Hanaguruma (花車 / Flower Cart) design, a traditional Japanese motif depicting a cart decorated with flowers.

The design is worked in relief against a finely textured dark metal ground, with gold-colored inlay and accents highlighting the flowers, foliage, and cart. The contrast between the dark textured surface and the gold-colored decoration gives the piece a particularly attractive and refined appearance.

The reverse of the kozuka is also extensively decorated, featuring a gold-colored surface covered with a fine textured pattern.

The kogatana blade bears a long, heavily worn inscription. Some characters remain visible, but the inscription cannot be read with sufficient confidence. The maker and authenticity of the inscription have not been verified, and no attribution is being made. Please examine the close-up photographs carefully.

The kogatana blade shows substantial age-related oxidation, staining, scratches, rubbing, and old polishing or abrasion marks. The kozuka also shows surface wear, scratches, discoloration, and patina consistent with an antique Japanese sword fitting.
