Exact age and origin unknown but believe to be early to mid 1800s.. Came from a clean older Pa estate..
The chestnut tree blight (fungal disease) was introduced late 1800s to 1900.. By 1940-50s the chestnut tree population in the United States had been devastated.. QUALITY early furniture craftsmanship.. Appears to have been crafted from one tree..AMAZING GRAINING with original patina..Back and bottom shows hand planning marks..Front framed in a delicate molding with a center medallionBeautifully dovetailed front and back.. Noted wood pegs on bottom and around lid edge molding, mortised through bottom turned turnip feet and square nails.. Original cast iron hinges and metal inset lock - No lid latch or key.. Nice lidded walnut till.. Quality throughout..
