Product Description:
Up for sale is a stunningly rare, genuine 19th-century French architectural masterpiece: an authentic
Sarreguemines Faience Double-Gourd Vase dating between 1875 and 1900. This extraordinary piece
perfectly captures the late Victorian-era obsession with Japonisme—where prestigious European pottery
houses extensively drew inspiration from Far Eastern aesthetics.
The vase displays a gorgeous interlocking arabesque flower and vine layout (closely reflecting classic
Japanese Karakusa patterns) rendered in deep, striking cobalt blue underglaze. Sections are neatly segmented
by heavy, hand-applied gold gilt framing accents that glimmer beautifully under warm lighting.
Base & Maker\'s Mark:
The bottom of the vase proudly displays the original, hand-penned cursive \'Sarreguemines\' mark in blue
underglaze, guaranteeing its historic provenance. There is a clean, circular factory-drilled (or professionally
retrofitted) hole in the direct center of the bottom base, indicating it was intended as a luxury lamp body or
statement base component.
Condition Report:
The piece is in excellent antique condition with no structural chips, cracks, or repairs observed on the outer
body panels. Consistent with true late-1800s French faience pottery, there is a fine, uniform network of
age-appropriate glaze crazing across the surface glaze, most visibly pronounced on the bottom base. This
crazing provides beautiful proof of natural aging. Gilt details show minor, honest age-appropriate wear as
expected of an item over 120 years old.
Shipping & Handling:
Due to the fragile nature and high value of this antique, it will be double-boxed, securely padded with
bubble wrap, and shipped with tracking and full coverage courier insurance. Please review all
high-resolution photos carefully as they form part of the condition summary. Please reach out with any
additional questions before completing purchase!
