Good vintage condition for its age. Some fine surface scratches and patina, some overall surface wear and small bends in wires. NOTE: Original pin on brooch was missing and hinge was half broken-off the frame. It was replaced with a newer vintage pin of the similar estimated size (a little longer than the actual width, as was the style at that time). It is unknown if the C-catch is original, but note that the base metal differs from the c-clasp metal. Also, there is a fine crack long the center of the brooch stone. Because the entire stone is adhered to the back, this crack does not threaten the stability of the piece and, in any event, the crack tends to blend in with the striations.
Green stones are believed to be glass rather than genuine malachite, but we cannot confirm that that the stones are real malachite. We feel safer attributing them as glass based on appearance and feel. If they are real, they seem very similar to old Russian malachite jewelry. But again, it\'s too difficult for us to tell.
This rare, alluring set features cut steel faceted bolts and pins popular in the late 18th to late 19th centuries. It is quite old and appears European made.
