Antique c1820-1840 Staffordshire Copper Lustre Floral Teapot 7.5in For Sale

Antique early 19th-century English copper lustre teapot, attributed to the Staffordshire region and dating approximately 1820–1840.This striking teapot features a rich metallic copper-lustre finish over earthenware with colorful hand-painted floral and foliate enamel decoration in turquoise blue, cobalt, lavender/pink, white and additional accents. The body has an ornate molded and paneled form with a shaped foot, dramatically scalloped shoulder, matching domed cover, curved spout and elaborate scroll-form handle.An old handwritten paper label remains on the underside and reads approximately “Copper Lustre, Circa 1820–40, $225.” The label appears to be from a previous dealer or collector and has been left intact.The teapot measures approximately 7 1/2 inches tall and 11 inches wide from the outer edge of the handle to the tip of the spout.The piece appears to be unmarked by a manufacturer, which is not unusual for early English Staffordshire-area lustreware.Condition: This approximately 185–200-year-old teapot shows age-related wear consistent with its age and use. Most notably, there is chipping/loss at the end of the spout, clearly shown in the photographs. There is also expected surface wear, variation and loss to portions of the copper lustre and hand-painted enamel decoration. The lid is present. The metal knob/finial on the lid appears to be an older replacement or repair and may have replaced the original ceramic finial. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.Despite the damaged spout, this remains a highly decorative survivor of early 19th-century English lustreware, with an unusually elaborate molded shape, beautiful reflective copper surface and vibrant polychrome floral decoration.Approximate date: 1820–1840
