Antoninus Pius ruled Rome at the height of the Empire\'s power and prosperity. He succeeded Hadrian and was the adoptive father and predecessor of Marcus Aurelius. His 23-year reign was unusually peaceful by Roman standards and is often remembered as part of the golden age of the “Five Good Emperors.”

The front of the coin bears the laureate portrait of Antoninus Pius, the same type of silver denarius that circulated throughout the Roman world during his lifetime.
