Athearn produced this model as a special NMRA edition representing the real Norfolk Southern #3215 as it appeared carrying the 2014 NMRA National Convention – Cleveland decoration.
The special NMRA Cleveland 2014 convention emblem is factory-applied on the side of the locomotive body, just behind the cab area. The real Norfolk Southern #3215 actually carried matching convention decals in service, making this model a reproduction of a real prototype appearance rather than a fantasy scheme.
Athearn’s own 2014 announcement identifies this release as the Norfolk Southern – NMRA Special, road number 3215, with DCC-ready Quick Plug equipment.
