Recorded in New York City on April 6, 1938, with Fuller on vocal and guitar. Discographic sources identify the matrices as 22690-2 for “Meat Shakin’ Woman” and 22691-1 for “I’m a Good Stem Winder.”
Blind Boy Fuller is one of the central figures in Piedmont blues and one of the most collectible country-blues artists of the 1930s. Original Vocalion issues like this are especially appealing to collectors of pre-war blues, race records, acoustic blues, and early American roots music.
There is solid sales evidence for this exact coupling. A Vocalion 04137 sold on in January 2026 for $53 after 5 offers, and an earlier V++ example sold through the Venerable Music archive for $41.51. 45cat currently shows a collector guide figure of $125 for the issue, though actual value depends heavily on condition.
Condition:
This copy shows substantial surface wear, scratches, and scuffs consistent with age and heavy use. There is visible edge damage and old tape repair/stabilization, including what appears to be a crack extending inward from the edge. Labels remain readable with moderate wear.
Because of the crack and repair, this should be considered a damaged but collectible original rather than a high-grade playing copy. Please review all photographs carefully.
Despite the condition issues, this remains a desirable original Blind Boy Fuller Vocalion from his classic 1930s period.
