Amazing ephemera find in an 1881 first edition of “Jack Hazard”—the personal calling card of Baron Raven E. A. Barnekow, WWI flying ace and international celebrity.
Based on inscription dates, the Baron would have been 9 years old at the time the original owner owned the book. The original owner, Clark, did live in New York and may have received this book from his friend!!
Barnekow (10 March 1897 – 8 December 1941) was a German World War I flying ace credited with eleven aerial victories. Postwar, he emigrated to the United States and became romantically involved with movie star Kay Francis. He went on to serve the Nazis during the early days of World War II before committing suicide.
The Jack hazard novels were classics of post civil war juvenile literature. This copy is a 1st edition in near fine condition. Photos of card and book accurate. Card will be shipped in book exactly as found.
