For sale is a beautiful 19th century possibly early 20th century veneered violin case.
From an estate collection of antiquates in the Hudson Valley in upstate New York.
The case with a wonderful veneer with banded wood grain
on the sides
We are unsure of the species of the wood veneer. It could be pine, it could be maple or something else. Please see all of our close-up, detailed pictures for consideration of the wood grain species.
The case has its original handle that is attached using snipe hinges (see pics)
The case has both hook latches as well as a locking mechanism. The locking mechanism is there, but it does come off as shown in our pictures.
We looked all over and cannot find any makers marks. There is some pencil inscription that we cannot make out inside the case.
There looks to have been some repair to the inner edge banding. Very well done (see pics)
The case closes shut with a nice fit.
It was dirty when we received it so we did a light clean and then gave it a rub with a little bit of beeswax.
Very structurally sound. Just needs to be fitted for one's presonal violin and some small work to the locking mechanism.
