Released in 2010 for PC, Blur was developed by Bizarre Creations (the studio behind the Project Gotham Racing series) and published by Activision. It takes licensed cars and realistic-looking environments and throws them into an arcade-style racing game with weapons, power-ups, crashes, and plenty of mayhem.
Think Mario Kart meets Burnout, but with real-world cars. You can race everything from BMWs and Fords to Dodges while using power-ups like Shunt, Shock, Mine, and Nitro to attack your opponents or get yourself out of trouble. Cars have health bars, so avoiding—or surviving—damage is part of the strategy.
The races take place across city environments inspired by locations including Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo, with the game's distinctive neon-heavy visual style.
One of the big reasons collectors have held onto physical copies is that Blur was eventually delisted from digital storefronts and its official online services were shut down, making the original PC release an interesting piece of early-2010s gaming history.
