Boss CE-2W Chorus
The World’s First Chorus Sound Revived in “WAZA CRAFT”
In 1976, BOSS introduced the CE-1, the world’s first chorus effect pedal. Responding to requests from many guitarists, the CE-2 packed that same chorus sound into a compact pedal body. Its unique chorus sound, which creates a pleasant, mild sway, continues to be loved by top-tier players even 40 years later. In 2016, marking the 40th anniversary of the CE-1—BOSS’s very first pedal—the original chorus sound is revived in the “WAZA CRAFT” series. The STANDARD mode reproduces the chorus sound of the CE-2. It also delivers the spaciousness of stereo output, a feature not found on the CE-2. Furthermore, it features the two modes from the CE-1: CHORUS and VIBRATO. It also includes a CHORUS DEPTH control, a feature not found on the original unit. To mark the 40th anniversary of BOSS effects, and as a way to return to our roots, we are offering the CE-2W in a Made in Japan specification.

● Peace of mind with a 5-year Chorus Ensemble Released in 1976 The Roland Jazz Chorus amplifier shocked the music world with its unprecedented design and sound, combining the world’s first chorus circuit with a stereo amplifier. In response to requests from musicians who wanted to use that sound, the CE-1 was developed as the first BOSS-branded pedal unit.
The unique chorus sound—mild yet with a deep sense of movement—was embraced not only by guitarists but by musicians across the board. It also featured a vibrato mode with a distinctive, strongly modulated sound, offering new expressive possibilities for various musical genres, including rock and jazz.
CE-2 Chorus Released in 1979The CE-2, released in 1979, featured a chorus circuit designed specifically for guitar within the body of a BOSS compact pedal. Compared to the CE-1, it offered a shallower modulation and was characterized by a crisp chorus that did not compromise the clarity of the guitar sound. In addition to the original CE-2’s mono output, the CE-2W provided a wider soundstage through stereo In Japan BOSS’s craftsmanship—which pioneered the use of the then-new BBD semiconductor device to create an unprecedented chorus sound—lives on in “WAZA CRAFT.” And in this commemorative year marking the 40th anniversary of BOSS effects, the CE-2W is manufactured in Japan, just as it was back then.
