Dating to the late Georgian to early Victorian era (circa1830s), this double-sided swivel piece features a hand-painted portraitminiature under glass, showcasing a fashionable young woman with delicate auburnringlets and a lace-trimmed cap. The reverse reveals a dark fabric backing(ideal for a woven hairwork keepsake or secondary portrait). The miniature ishoused in a warm gilded brass frame accented by a twisted rope border and asweet ribbon bow motif at the base, complete with an integrated top loop forwearing as a pendant.
Measures 2 1/4” by 1 1/2”.
Some wear to the painting and patina to the gilt brass; the glasson the reverse is cracked.
Note on Mechanics: This piece appears to be a period orlater conversion/marriage of components. Because the double-sided swivelcapsule has a deep, convex profile, the pin stem on the reverse sits under hightension and does not easily fasten closed. It is best enjoyed and wornprimarily as a pendant using the top loop, though the pin remains intact forhistorical display. The bezel on the reverse is raised in one area, probably occurringwhen the piece was converted.
