Antique American silver salver/tray manufactured by Gorham of Providence, Rhode Island and retailed by Crosby, Hunnewell & Morse of Boston during the Civil War era.
The underside bears Gorham\'s early lion, anchor, and Gothic “G” hallmarks, along with the “CROSBY HUNNEWELL & MORSE” retailer\'s mark.
Crosby, Hunnewell & Morse was an independent Boston jewelry and silver retailer operating under that partnership name for only a brief period, approximately 1861–1863. Gorham manufactured silver for the firm to retail, explaining the presence of both companies\' marks on this piece. This narrow partnership period provides a likely manufacture/retail date of approximately 1861–1863.
The salver features an ornate engraved center with a Gothic “C.A.M.” monogram, decorative engraved borders, and four raised feet.The piece shows age-appropriate surface wear, scratches, tarnish/patina and other signs of use.
