Many aftermarket options provide the required 12V / 5V / -5V rails, but they’re often overpowered and overpriced. For example, ATX power supplies can output 450W or more, while the ColecoVision only needs about 36W. This design delivers the correct voltages efficiently — without unnecessary bulk or cost.
⚙️ Technical Details
Operates from a single 12V 2A power supply, connected via a standard 2.1mm x 5.5mm barrel plug.
The 12V line is regulated down to 5V using two DC-to-DC buck converters.
The -5V line is generated through a charge pump inverter from the regulated 5V.
The charge pump provides up to 0.1A, which is more than enough for the 4116 VRAM that uses the -5V rail.
The power supply connects directly to the back of the ColecoVision, just like the original.
The connector housing is 3D printed and uses Molex connectors for a clean, secure fit.
