About the Artist: Franklin Samuel Galambos (1944 – 2018) was an American printmaker and fine artist known for his detailed etchings, silkscreen prints, engravings, and pen-and-ink drawings, often capturing the serene landscapes of rural Pennsylvania, particularly the Oley Valley and his beloved Fry Road. Born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, he grew up in Sprint Mount and Collegeville, attending Shenandoah Valley Academy in Virginia and graduating from Blue Mountain Academy in Hamburg, Pennsylvania, in 1962. Self-taught as an artist, Galambos began his career as a commercial artist in Philadelphia until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967 as a conscientious objector. He served as a graphic illustrator at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and later in Long Binh, Vietnam, working on U.S. Army aviation projects. His service earned him the Army Commendation Medal from General Creighton W. Abrams. After returning in 1969, Galambos resumed commercial art but shifted to fine art in 1972, focusing on printmaking techniques like etching and silkscreen. In 1978, he moved to Berks County, Pennsylvania, where the countryside inspired much of his work. With his wife, Leslie Anne Hartmaier, as his studio assistant, he established a full printing atelier in 1985, producing limited-edition, hand-tinted etchings often printed on high-quality papers like Rives BFK. His works, such as Ascent, Barberries and Rose Hips at Winter\'s Dawn, and Hoarfrost, feature tranquil scenes reflecting the Artist\'s sensitivity to disappearing landscapes. These pieces are noted for their realism, stricking hand-coloring, and intricate and haunting details.
Galambos’ art is held in private and corporate collections internationally and has been featured in numerous magazines. His holiday card sets, printed on recycled paper with soy-based inks, remain popular. He saw his work as a legacy preserving fading rural vistas.
