A firsthand regimental history by a member of the regiment (Co. I). It follows the unit from its organization through the Cheat Mountain, Elkwater and Beverly campaigns of 1861, the Mountain Department, the Army of Virginia, the Rocky Gap Expedition, Droop Mountain, the Salem Raid and the campaigns of 1864. It also covers scouting service, prison life and an escape from prison.

Condition
This is a 130-plus-year-old book and it shows its age, but it is complete and presentable.
- Spine: Heavily worn. The covering is cracked, flaking and lifted, with bare paper showing at the tail and mid-spine, and the head is chipped.
- Boards: Front board rubbed and scraped near the top. Pale scuffed patch on the back board near the lower left. Wear along the spine edges, and the corners are bumped.
- Hinges: [Confirm: tight / slightly loose at the front.]
- Interior: Some toning and scattered spots. Small edge tear at the gutter margin of the contents page. Faint pencil bookseller notation on the front endpaper. Rear endpapers clean.
