A beautiful ochre-yellow glazed French Toupin Pot, originally used for slow cooking and stewing. Similar to French confit pots, it is a traditional half glazed ceramic pot that was primarily used in the southwest of France. It has a part yellow glazed top half and terracotta lower half which could be buried in the earth to keep the contents cool. Hand made, the glazing process created the characterful markings with a yellow glaze with variation in tone.
With a weathered patina, this pot measures approx. 17cm tall and 19cm wide (rim to spout). This pot has markings and patina in keeping with its age and use, including hairline cracking and some zones of black patina due to the cooking over a fireplace. As pictured. A lovely addition to any home.
