Hermetic Masonry
By Frank C. Higgins. Trismegistus Press, 1980. Reprint edition. Hardcover. Approx. 127 pp.
An attractive 1980 Trismegistus Press reprint of Hermetic Masonry, bringing back into print a series of influential early twentieth-century essays by noted Masonic scholar and esoteric writer Frank C. Higgins. Originally issued as part of Higgins’ celebrated Masonic Monographs series, this volume explores the symbolic, Hermetic, Egyptian, astronomical, and initiatic traditions that Higgins believed underlay the origins of Freemasonry.
The work includes The Beginning of Masonry, a collection of forty papers first published in the Masonic Standard, together with Higgins’ interpretations of ancient mystery religions, solar symbolism, comparative mythology, and the philosophical foundations of Masonic ritual. Higgins was among the most imaginative and widely read Masonic antiquarians of his era, and his writings remain sought after by students of Freemasonry, Western esotericism, occult history, and comparative religion.
Bound in black cloth stamped in gilt on the front cover and spine, with the Trismegistus Press device on both cover and copyright page. Illustrated throughout with photographs and symbolic diagrams. A clean, attractive copy.
Condition: Very good. Binding sound and square. Gilt lettering bright. Minor shelf wear and light rubbing to cloth. Interior clean and unmarked. Former bookseller stamp (“Mason’s Bookshop, New York”) on front free endpaper. No dust jacket, as issued. Overall a well-preserved example of an increasingly uncommon Trismegistus Press edition.
A desirable reference work for collectors of Masonic literature, Rosicrucian and Hermetic studies, and twentieth-century esoteric publishing.
