With ‘A Touch of Mercury’, Sorayama masterfully displays his signature aesthetic and pushes the limits of his preferred subject matter: the tantalizing beauty of fusing the female body with robotic technology. With this porcelain edition, Sorayama shows he only needs one arm to convey the enticing image of the ‘sexy robot’. The index finger pointing, seemingly inviting the viewer to share an intimate, titanium plated touch. Light bounces off the sleek sculpture, its glisten emphasizing the stark contrast of the cold steel and the invitation of a warm embrace. Just as King Midas could turn everything he touched into gold, it seems the touch of Hajime Sorayama renders everything slick, silver and above all; sexy.
