I’m Harold A. Laynor’s granddaughter, and I’m honored to preserve and share his artwork with a new generation.
The Reb Kachina watercolors were the final series Harold Laynor created before his passing in 1991, and they have always held a special place in our family. These prints were professionally produced from his original watercolor artwork in 1994 as a limited edition of 500 of each design.
About the Reb Kachina
The Reb Kachina evolved from Harold Laynor’s deep love of the American Southwest combined with his devotion to Jewish culture. This distinctive blend of traditions resulted in a series filled with humor, symbolism, storytelling and warmth.
Each scene follows the Southwestern Reb through moments that bring together Jewish themes with imagery inspired by the American Southwest, creating a wonderfully unusual series that invites both appreciation and conversation.

About the Artist — Harold A. Laynor (1922–1991)
Harold A. Laynor was a prolific American artist whose career encompassed thousands of works. Born in New York City, he began painting at age 12 after trading his stamp collection for a set of oil paints.
His studies included Parsons School of Design, New York University and SUNY Albany.
Laynor also served during World War II with the Ghost Army, the U.S. Army\'s secret tactical deception units. His wartime service became another remarkable chapter in a life defined by both creativity and service.
Throughout his artistic career, Laynor received numerous honors and continued creating art until the end of his life. The Reb Kachina watercolors became his final series.
Today, his family continues to preserve his work and introduce it to new generations of collectors.
