After dropping out of Musashino Art University, he traveled throughout Japan. From 1971 to 1973, he traveled to more than 25 countries, including India, Europe, and Africa, immersing himself in the cultures of those regions. Upon his return to Japan, he built a climbing kiln and established his own studio. He has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prize at the Tabe Art Museum’s “Tea Ceremony Art” Exhibition in 1987, as well as the Encouragement Award (1996, 2003) and Excellence Award (2000) at the same exhibition, and the Special Prize (1996) and Encouragement Award (1998) at the Tankō Biennale. In 2005, he held a solo exhibition and a tea ceremony in India, and that same year, his work was added to the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Inspired by Picasso, he developed works characterized by free-form design and depiction, leaving behind masterpieces such as tea bowls with sculptural forms and colorful hues; many of these feature paintings and inscriptions on paulownia wood boxes.
