Authentic Piece of 1930 Illinois Cartographic History. This listing is for a rare, original 3-piece set of U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) copper printing plates for the Danvers, Illinois Quadrangle, officially published in 1930.These heavy, solid copper plates were used in the historic topographic mapping process. Each plate represents a specific color layer used in the multi-step lithographic printing process to create the final Central Illinois map (separating topographic contour lines, water features, and culture/roads).
The last photo is a copy of what a printed map would look like if using these plates. It is for reference only and is not included in the sale.
Excellent vintage condition. Deep, distinct engraved details with a rich, authentic patina. Minor surface wear consistent with age and historical archival use. No deep gouges or warping.
