About the Artist;

Judy (Judith) Wengrovitz (1931–2018)

Judy Wengrovitz was an award-winning American watercolor artist and respected art educator based primarily in Springfield, Virginia. A graduate of Hunter College in New York City with a degree in Art Education, she built a lifelong career dedicated to both creating and teaching art.

Over more than five decades, Wengrovitz became a highly active and influential figure in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan art community. She exhibited widely in regional, national, and juried exhibitions, including organizations such as the National Watercolor Society and the National League of American Pen Women.

Her work earned numerous honors, including major exhibition awards such as the Award of Honor for her painting “The Motorcycle” (1984), as well as additional recognition from respected institutions including the Virginia Watercolor Society and the Art League at the Torpedo Factory. She was also listed in Who’s Who in American Art, reflecting her established presence in the American art scene.

In addition to her studio practice, Wengrovitz held leadership roles in several art organizations, including the Springfield Art Guild, Virginia Watercolor Society, Potomac Valley Watercolorists, and the Alexandria Branch of the National League of American Pen Women. She also devoted much of her career to teaching watercolor painting, mentoring generations of students across Northern Virginia and continuing to teach well into her later years.

Her work spans expressive landscapes, botanical studies, and natural scenes, often characterized by vibrant color, fluid brushwork, and strong compositional structure.

Judy Wengrovitz passed away in 2018, leaving behind a substantial artistic legacy and a body of work that continues to appear in private collections and secondary art markets.
