A charming and scarce Ian McCaskill autograph featuring a playful self‑portrait doodle — a round smiling face with the handwritten annotation “(ME)” beside it. McCaskill was one of the BBC’s most recognisable weather presenters from the late 1970s through the 1990s, known for his warm, cheerful delivery and distinctive on‑screen personality. Doodled examples are significantly rarer than standard signed slips and are highly sought after by collectors of British broadcasting memorabilia.
The doodle is typical of McCaskill’s light‑hearted style: simple, humorous, and instantly identifiable as a personal touch. The ink is bold, the slip clean, and the presentation ideal for framing or archival inclusion.

Ian McCaskill (Jul 1938 – Dec 2016) was a Scottish meteorologist and television and radio presenter, who frequently presented weather forecasts on the BBC. Born in Glasgow and an alumni of the University of Glasgow, he began working for the Met Office in 1961, producing long range forecasts for aircraft. McCaskill began appearing on BBC Television and Radio in 1978, presenting weather bulletins until his retirement from the Met Office in 1998. He was a fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society and the vice-president of the Epilepsy Society.
PROVENANCE:
From a large collection of Autographs (c500 +) in two albums that were personally obtained by Mr Bernard Sullivan (Apr 1920 - Feb 2017), renowned Senior Toastmaster for the Society of London Toastmasters. Due to the nature of his job, whenever an opportunity arose for an autograph, Sullivan would grab whatever was to hand - a ticket, a menu, back of his notes, etc to capture his prey.
Over his long distinguished career, he worked with many people from around the world including Royalty, Heads of States, Archbishops, HM Judges, Stars of Stage and Screen , Politicians and Sportsmen, many becoming like old friends. During his 58 years as a Toastmaster, he gradually built up a large, impressive collection of autographs, which were all personally collected by him. He cherished them and proudly showed them off to friends and family.
