Boeing 757-225, registered N505EA, was part of Eastern Air Lines\' original 757-200 fleet, among the first examples of the type delivered following Eastern\'s joint 1978 launch order with British Airways that made Eastern the 757\'s launch customer. Eastern operated the world\'s first commercial 757 flight on January 1, 1983, from Atlanta to Tampa, and early aircraft like N505EA supported the carrier\'s rollout of the new twinjet across its domestic network before Eastern\'s financial troubles and eventual 1991 collapse ended the airline\'s 62-year operating history.

Boeing 757-200 Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes. A total of 1050 aircraft were built before production ceased in 2004, however many airframes have since been retrofitted with drag-reducing blended winglets to help improve fuel economy.
