JPL Jean Pouyat Limoges Large Two Handled Serving Dish with Gold Gilt, Signed J.A.Beardsley
Back of plate: Pate April 2, 1907. Plate painted by J. A. Beardsley.
This is a two handled bowl dish made by Jean Pouyat China of Limoges France. Pouyat is one of the oldest French names associated with the Limoges porcelain industry dating back to the 1760\'s. This unusual piece is hand painted with yellow flowers and lots of gold gilt. It is signed by the artist. The backstamp indicates it was Pat. April 26, 1907. The exterior has a white ground with gold gilt designs on the curved and flaring side walls. The top and bottom rims and the thick angular handles all are done in gold. The shape has an Art Nouveau look with it\'s curves and flowing lines with whimsical shapes on the sidewalls, while the angular handles seem a bit more Art Deco. There is some wear to the gold on the top angle of one handle. Overall condition is very good with no chips, cracks, crazing or signs of repair. Beautiful, rare and ready to use and display.
