Here we have the famous Fairbairn Sykes British Commando Knife -- guaranteed NEW and GENUINE.  Made by John Nowill & Sons, these knives are marked with the crossed keys, the \"D\", and six-point star at the base of the handle, and also have the MOD\'s (Ministry Of Defense) crow\'s foot mark and the Diamond \"H\"  F.E. & J.R. Hopkinson MOD manufacturer\'s mark along with \"J. Nowill & Sons Sheffield England\" on the fingerguard.  Again, this item is GUARANTEED authentic.

The Commandos were formed during 1940 at the strategic directive of Winston Churchill and following a suggestion to the War Office by Captains W.E. Fairbairn & E.A. Sykes they were equipped with a new style fighting knife in early 1941.  The modified design of the Third Pattern Commando Dagger introduced in 1943 has withstood the test of time and is still issued to British Royal Marine Commandos and other overseas Armed Forces to the present day.

The 6-7/8 inch long, double edged carbon steel blade has a mirror finish. These knives come from the factory with an unsharpened edge -- this knife is a piercer, not a slicer, due to the thick and narrow cross-section of the blade.  The knife is 11-1/2 inches long overall.  The metal handle is ribbed for an excellent grip.

The black leather leg sheath (the leather tabs on the side of the sheath were designed to be sewn to a pant leg) is metal-tipped to protect both the wearer and the blade\'s tip, and also has a pair of 2-1/2\" belt slots -- the slots will fit most belts up to 2\" wide, allowing for the thickness of the belt itself.

This is a new, currently manufactured knife.  It is not an antique or \"period\" knife, but it is still quite collectible.  This is not a cheap Chinese knockoff -- it is the genuine product, made by John Nowill & Sons in the Sheffield, England (the United Kingdom) factory.
