Originally released in June 1979 on Manchester's independent Factory Records label, Unknown Pleasures was Joy Division's first full-length studio album. The album was produced by Martin Hannett.The album's cover, designed by Peter Saville, features a visualization of radio pulses from pulsar CP 1919. Its white waveform against a black background is one of the most recognizable images in the music industry.

Unknown Pleasures was originally released on Factory Records in the United Kingdom in 1979.
