The answer is: they are not reallyPhillips head screws but actually JIS screws. Those initials standfor Japanese Industrial Standards (日本工業規格).The screws may appear to have standard Phillips heads but a closerlook will reveal the JIS hole is shallower than a Phillips hole andall of the angles are different than #2 Phillips screwdriver tips.The long point of the Phillips screwdriver bottoms out in a shallowJIS screw before the teeth are properly engaged. Then when you twistthe tool, you will roll over the teeth in the screw and/or thedriver. To avoid this you can either purchase a JIS screwdriver orreplace those screws with a set of our Allen socket head cap screws.Our stainless Allen socket cap head screws will work better and looknicer than JIS screws plus they will never rust.
