Used vintage Lafayette Instrument Co. Model 58018 galvanic skin response (GSR) meter, from Lafayette, Indiana. A psychophysiology / bioresponse lab instrument with a large clear analog meter face marked "GALVANIC SKIN RESPONSE."
Galvanic skin response (GSR) meters measure changes in the electrical conductivity of the skin, which shifts with sweat-gland activity when a person feels excitement, stress, or strong emotion. These instruments were widely used in psychology and psychophysiology laboratories for research on emotional arousal, in bioresponse training for relaxation techniques, and as one of the measurement channels of the polygraph (lie detector). A fascinating piece of vintage scientific equipment.
