Large Museum Quality 2nd-3rd Century AD Afghanistan Schist Bodhisattva Head.
This is a magnificent museum quality grey schist head of a Bodhisattva. Very high quality piece from Afghanistan. The distinctive face is modelled with a meditative expression, arched eyebrows above heavy lidded eyes, bow shaped lips, elongated earlobes with large earlobes. The elaborate and beautifully executed wavy hairdress terminates in a usnisa top knot and is decorated with a head band. A hole in the top would have originally served as a holding place for further embellishment or jewels. Professionally mounted on a clear plexi glass stand with a black metal rod.
This piece is in exellent condition with no restoration or repairs or cracking. Some ancient weathering due to age. Absulutely beautiful piece.
