The Leccino is a beautiful, resilient tree from Tuscany, prized for its silvery-green leaves, weeping habit, and mild, fruity oil.

Sunlight: Full, direct sun (6-8+ hours per day). This is essential.

Water: Water deeply when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry. Drought-tolerant once established, but dislikes \"wet feet\" (soggy soil).

Soil: Must be very well-draining. A cactus/succulent mix or sandy loam is ideal.

Pollination: This is key. Leccino is not reliably self-fertile. To get fruit, you must plant another olive variety nearby. Good pollinators include \'Pendolino\', \'Frantoio\', or Hardy in-ground in USDA Zones 8-11. In colder zones, it must be in a pot and brought indoors before the first Small pots dry out very fast, especially in full sun. You may need to water every few days. Container Planting: This is a great choice for any climate.

Soil: Use a fast-draining mix. Do not use garden soil in a pot.

Hardiness: Leccino trees can tolerate brief temperatures down to 15-20°F (-6 to -9°C) once mature, but young trees are more tender. If you expect a hard frost, protect it or bring it inside.

3. Watering & Fertilizing

Watering: The #1 mistake is overwatering. Olive trees are native to the Mediterranean and prefer their soil to dry out between waterings. In a pot, this is more frequent; in the ground, an established tree may only need deep watering every few weeks in a drought.

Fertilizing: Olives are not heavy feeders.

Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring as new growth appears.

If your tree is in a pot, you can fertilize again in mid-summer.

Do not fertilize in the fall or winter.

4. Pruning

When: Prune in late spring, after all danger of frost has passed but before it flowers.

Why: Olives fruit on the previous year\'s new growth. Pruning encourages this new growth and:

Opens the Canopy: Prune to a \"vase\" shape, removing inward-facing branches. This allows sunlight and air to reach the center of the tree, which improves fruit set and reduces disease.

Controls Size: You can keep your tree to a manageable height for potting or harvesting.

5. Pollination & Fruiting

To get a reliable harvest, you need a pollinator.

Plant a different variety (like \'Pendolino\' or \'Frantoio\') nearby. If in pots, you can simply place the two pots next to each other.

The trees are wind-pollinated, so having them in the same general area is usually enough.

With proper care and pollination, your tree may begin producing fruit within 3-5 years.

You must contact us within three days of the arrival of the damaged tree. We require photos of the entire tree and the container along with a photo of the box the tree was shipped in.
